The best things to do in Mui Ne are a sunrise jeep tour to the White Sand Dunes, sunset on the Red Sand Dunes, a barefoot walk up Fairy Stream, the dawn boats at Mui Ne fishing village and the Po Sah Inu Cham towers. From The Cliff Resort & Residences at Phu Hai, the towers are about 5 km away, Fairy Stream 9 km, the Red Dunes 18 km and the White Dunes about 43 km, so every sight is a drive rather than a walk.
Most entry fees are small, VND 15,000 or less in 2026; the real costs are transport and the tours.

Sunrise on the White Dunes, sunset on the Red Dunes
White Sand Dunes at Bau Trang
The White Dunes are the big landscape of the trip: pale, wind-shaped sand that rolls on for kilometres beside Bau Trang lake, about an hour north-east of The Cliff. Sunrise is the classic time, before the sand heats up. Some 2026 guides list a small gate fee of up to about VND 25,000 and others none; quad bikes rent for roughly VND 400,000–800,000 for about 20 minutes, and an operator’s March 2026 list prices an open jeep ride on the dunes at about VND 800,000 per vehicle for up to six people. The lotus lake flowers from roughly April to August.
Red Sand Dunes
The Red Dunes are smaller, closer to the road and free, which makes them the easy sunset outing: about 25 minutes by Grab or taxi from The Cliff. Children slide down on plastic sleds that local vendors rent for about VND 50,000 (mid-2026). The light is best in the hour before sunset, which falls between about 5:20 and 6:15 pm through the year.
The sunrise jeep tour
Most guests combine both dunes, Fairy Stream and the fishing village in one 4–5 hour jeep tour, listed at about USD 25–35 per vehicle for two to six people in June 2026. Ask for a pick-up at the resort and agree the stops before you set off.
Fairy Stream and Mui Ne fishing village
Fairy Stream
Fairy Stream is an ankle-deep stream of reddish water that you walk up barefoot for about 1.5 km, with red and orange clay cliffs and paler white formations on one side and green banks on the other, to a small waterfall at the end. Entry is VND 15,000 for adults; ignore anyone selling VND 50,000 tickets, which are for a small animal area by the entrance. Go between 7 and 9 am, before the midday sun, since there is little shade.
Mui Ne fishing village
At dawn the bay at Mui Ne fishing village fills with painted wooden boats and round woven basket boats, and the catch is sorted on the sand. It is free, and worth it between 5 and 7 am; by about 8 am the market is packing up. Watch from the viewpoint by the road or walk down to the beach, and mind the wet, fishy sand.
Closest to The Cliff: Po Sah Inu and Phan Thiet
The Po Sah Inu towers stand on a small hill about 5 km from the resort, roughly 10 minutes by car: red-brick Cham temples in three groups, with a view over the coast and Phan Thiet. Entry was VND 15,000 for adults and VND 7,000 for children aged 6 to 12 in June 2026. Opening hours differ between listings (one says until 5 pm, another 3 pm), so go in the morning.
Phan Thiet itself, 8–10 km away, is a working town rather than a resort: a river crowded with blue fishing boats, a busy central market and cheaper local food than the Mui Ne strip. It suits a half day if you want to see everyday life on this coast.
On the water: kites, kayaks and the resort beach
From late October to March the northeast wind turns Mui Ne into one of Asia’s kitesurfing spots, strongest from January to March. Most schools work from the Ham Tien beach, about 12 minutes from The Cliff, and even non-riders enjoy watching the kites from a beach café.
At the resort, sea kayaks are free for up to an hour, and the beach has loungers, umbrellas and a lifeguard. From April to October the sea is usually calm enough for easy swimming; in the windy months, swim where the flags allow. Our guide to the pools and beach has the hours.
Further out: Ta Cu mountain and Ke Ga lighthouse
Two day trips head south-west, each roughly an hour or more by car from The Cliff. Ta Cu mountain has a reclining Buddha of about 49 metres, reached by cable car (around VND 250,000 return including entry, 2025–2026 listings). Ke Ga lighthouse, built by the French at the end of the 19th century on a rocky islet, is reached by a short boat ride; July 2026 listings quote VND 100,000–200,000 return per person. Many tours combine Ta Cu with Po Sah Inu in a full day.
A simple three-day plan from The Cliff
| Day | Morning | Afternoon and evening |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Settle in, pool and beach | Po Sah Inu towers, Red Dunes at sunset, seafood on the Ham Tien strip |
| 2 | Sunrise jeep tour: White Dunes, fishing village, Fairy Stream | Back by mid-morning; sleep, spa or kids club |
| 3 | Kayak or swim while the sea is calm | Kite-watching on Ham Tien (Nov–Mar) or Phan Thiet market |
Questions about things to do in Mui Ne
How many days do you need in Mui Ne?
Two full days covers the main sights: one sunrise jeep tour for the White and Red Dunes, Fairy Stream and the fishing village, and one easier day for Po Sah Inu, the beach and a seafood dinner. Add a third day for Ta Cu, Ke Ga or kitesurfing, or simply time at the resort.
Can you see Mui Ne without a tour?
Yes. Grab cars and taxis reach the Red Dunes, Fairy Stream, the fishing village and Po Sah Inu easily, and entry fees are small. The White Dunes, about 43 km from The Cliff, are where a tour or a private car makes most sense, especially for sunrise.
Are the Mui Ne sand dunes good for children?
The Red Dunes are: they are close to the road, free, and children love sledding down them. The White Dunes are bigger and hotter, so go at sunrise, bring water and hats, and think twice about quad bikes with young children. Fairy Stream is an easy, shallow walk that most children enjoy.
Is Mui Ne worth visiting in the windy season?
Yes, if you like sun and wind. From November to March skies are mostly clear and kitesurfing is at its best, but the sea is rougher and sand blows on the dunes in the afternoon. Swimmers and families with small children usually prefer April to June.
